Guidelines for submitting announcements
The newsgroup for announcements relating to Network Computers, comp.sys.net-computer.announce,
is moderated. This means that all articles posted to that newsgroup have to be approved by
a moderator, to ensure that they comply with the groups'
charter which basically says that they have to be
announcements which are relevant to Network Computers.
In addition to complying with the charter, articles should also follow the guidelines
below.
Submission Instructions
To submit an article post to comp.sys.net-computer.announce in the usual way, your news
software should forward it to the correct moderator.
You should either see your article appear in the newsgroup, or receive a reply from the
moderator explaining why the article was rejected, within 3 days. However under some
circumstances the time taken for messages to pass from your site to the moderator's site and
back again, via e-mail and/or news, may be longer. Also it is possible that the moderator will
be unable to act on submission requests for several days. If you do not see your article in the
newsgroup or receive a reply from the moderator within a week, you should either resubmit your
article or contact the moderator.
Submission Guidelines
- Any single line in an article should be no longer than 80 characters,
and preferably slightly less at around 72-77 characters.
- HTML should be avoided
- MIME in the body of the message should be avoided
- English should be used for all articles, although a translation can
also be provided if necessary.
- Unless you have prior permission the article should not be crossposted
to any other moderated newsgroups.
- Crossposting to other non-moderated should be limited, and only used
where necessary.
Unless the article calls for discussion in another comp.sys.net-computer.*
newsgroup, the article should not be crossposted or multiply posted to
any other comp.sys.net-computer.* newsgroup.
- Because the newsgroup is for announcements only articles should include a
Followup-To: line indicating where replies or discussion should go.
This can either be the name of another newsgroup (normally
comp.sys.net-computer.misc) or 'poster' (without the quotes) directing
replies be e-mailed to the address in the From: header.
- Sigs attached to the bottom of articles should be around 4 lines, and should be
preceded by the normal dash dash space (
--) separator.
- ASCII art (making large words or pictures from many normal characters)
should be avoided, although small bits in a sig or a diagram for example are OK.
- The Subject: line of the message should be as descriptive as possible.
- The e-mail address in the From: and Reply-To: headers should be a
valid e-mail address.
- You may use PGP to sign the body of important articles. If you do you should
ensure that your public PGP key is easily found, either by including a URL in your message,
or preferably by submitting it to a key server.
